Overview: This activity is a follow-up to the story The Mixed-Up Chameleon by Eric Carle. In this activity, students will color a chameleon printout, cut out the chameleon to form puzzle pieces, mix them up, and then put the chameleon back together again.
Recommended Grade Level(s): Preschool, Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, First
Materials:
- Mixed-up Chameleon Worksheet With Lines printed on heavy paper
- Mixed-up Chameleon Worksheet Without Lines printed on heavy paper
- Crayons, markers or paints (+brushes and smocks)
- Lamination (optional)
- scissors (one per child)
How to Implement:
Distribute a copy of the Mixed-Up Chameleon to each child. Allow students time to color the chameleon. Chameleons can then be laminated at this point if you choose. Students will then cut out the pieces. Depending on the worksheet you choose, lines will be provided for students to cut, or students can make their own cut lines based on how they want their puzzle to look. Alternatively, you, the teacher, can cut chameleons to make the puzzle pieces basic or more challenging to place together.
