Overview: Using a reading log to record summer reading can be a great way to track student progress and encourage children to build their love of reading. Incorporating fun outlets for creativity, such as coloring pictures or adding stickers, can help to make the reading log something young readers look forward to filling out rather than an obligation. Below you will find a variety of summer reading logs for children at the elementary level. Several designs, created for emergent readers, feature fun images that can be colored as each book is read. Summer themes include pirates, at the beach, and ice cream. Our reading logs for established readers are in chart format with fields for the date read, book title, a star or thumbs-up rating, and reasoning based on the their opinion of the book.
